Dr. Jerry Yulin Zhang is a Special Counsel with Lawjay Partners, a boutique PRC IP and business law firm in association with international firm Bird & Bird, in its Beijing Office. He received his B.A. and LLB from Peking University in Beijing, China in 1987 and his Postgraduate Certificate of International Economic Law from Peking University in 1989. He obtained his LLM from the University of British Columbia in Canada in 1994, and recently received his PhD in Law from UBC Allard School of Law.

Dr. Zhang was admitted in Beijing in 1989 and is qualified to practice law in China ever since. He is a member of All-China Lawyer’s Association and currently an arbitrator of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), Guangzhou Arbitration Commission and Chongqing Arbitration Commission and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators East Asian Branch (MCIArb). He is also a panelist appointed by the Domain Name Dispute Resolution Center of CIETAC (www.cietac.org), and a panelist on the list appointed by the Hong Kong International Arbitration Center (HKIAC) (www.hkiac.org) for domain name dispute resolution in the “.hk” and “.cn” domain. He recently becomes a panelist with the international panel and CIRA panel of British Columbia International Commercial Arbitration Centre (BCICAC) in Canada, and is credited as "The Center for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) Accredited Mediator".

His practice includes intellectual property law, international arbitration and foreign direct investment and M&A in China. Prior to joining Lawjay Partners, he was associated as China Legal Consultant for several years with the international law firm of Baker & McKenzie in Hong Kong in the China Practice Group and the Intellectual Practice Group (from 1994 to 2001). He was later further associated with the Hong Kong office of Morrison & Foerster in 2002. He subsequently returned to Beijing and practiced law as partners with King & Wood, and Haiwen & Partners. He has abundant experience in dealing with international arbitration, IPR matters, and investment related projects in China. Lawjay Partners handles client matters involving brand protection, trademark enforcement, trademark prosecutions and other business law advisory work for international and domestic brand owner clients.

Dr. Zhang speaks and writes regularly on topics like intellectual property and international arbitration. He is a contributing author to the recent work Arbitration in China: A Practical Guide (Thomson: Sweet & Maxwell Asia 2004). As part of his love for art, he likes to do painting and write Chinese calligraphies in his leisure time.
